A journal manuscript on thin-film semiconductor/2D materials has been submitted. This work represents a continuing collaboration with Los Alamos National Lab and Korea Aerospace University. This project was initiated by a former graduate student (Dr. David Magginetti) and sponsored by the University of Utah (Start-up Fundings).

2021 08 We welcome a new member, Etee Kwana Roy!
It is exciting to have a new PhD student, Etee Kwana Roy. Etee has a strong research background in the analytical modeling of multiparticle self-assembly. At the U, she will work on the microstructural measurements and analysis of thin-film semiconductor devices. We sincerely welcome Etee.
2021 08 Yu-Lin wins an M&M Student Award!
A first-year graduate student, Yu-Lin (Nick) Hsu, won a Student Award at M&M (Microscopy and Microanalysis Conference; https://www.microscopy.org/MandM/2021/). We also congratulate our former graduate student, Kaden Powell, who had initiated this work.
Their project focuses on hybrid metal-halide perovskite solar cells. M&M is the largest international microscopy conference, often having over 1600 attendees. We are so proud of them. We thank our collaborators (Dr. Chongwen Li, Prof. Yanfa Yan at University of Toledo).

2021 07 Dr. Yoon is invited to Advanced Photonics Congress.
Dr. Yoon is invited to give a talk at the Advanced Photonics Congress (OSA, The Optical Society) in July, 2021. She will discuss the recent progress on the “Nanocontact Approach” for thin-film photovoltaic materials and devices (CdTe, perovskites).
2021 07 Welcome ECE students from South Korea.

Five undergrad students (Donggi, Jin, Donghun, Seok, and Yunghwan) from the University of Utah Asia Campus (https://asiacampus.utah.edu/) are visiting the main campus for two weeks. Today, the students had a lab tour of our lab. Our undergrad researchers, Miranda (left) and Olivia (right), gave a lab tour and showed their experimental set-ups for PV measurements. We enjoyed the discussions. Hope to see them again in the future soon.
2021 07 Dr. Yoon Appointed to URC
Electrical and computer engineering associate professor Heayoung Yoon was recently appointed to the University Research Committee (URC) for a second, three-year term beginning July 2021. Yoon is one of only a handful of faculty to serve in this position twice.
Yoon said she enjoys the exposure to other departments and colleges that working on the research committee provides. She believes that research should be interdisciplinary and is always looking for opportunities to collaborate and support the work of others.
“I think that exposure to the research of other departments provides very valuable experience, and I’m happy that I was given another opportunity to serve on the committee,” Yoon said.
2021 06 Welcome Miranda!
We welcome a new undergrad researcher, Miranda Cardenas. After taking Dr. Yoon’s ECE 3200 class, Miranda wants to know the application of semiconductor materials and devices. She is working on a solar energy project. We are excited to work with her.
2021 06 EMC Presentation (Kaden, Nick)
Kaden and Nick gave a presentation at the Electronic Materials Conference (EMC). The EMC was held online owing to the COVID situation. Thank you for your work.
