2024 06 Two EMC papers are presented.

Two papers were presented at the 66th Electronc Materials Conference (EMC).

  • Translucent Solar Cells Fabricated with Nanosecond Pulsed Laser Beams by Ashif Chowdhury and Heayoung Yoon
  • Improvement of CdTe Solar Cells Using Patterned Al2O3 Reflectors by Etee Kawna Roy, Ashraful Mamun, and Heayoung Yoon

2024 06 Hosting Lab Tour for UAC Students

We welcome UAC students visiting our main campus in Salt Lake City. During the visit, Dr. Yoon gave an overview presentation on the latest research projects on renewable solar energy. Additionally, one of our group members (Mr. Taehoon Kim) shared valuable information about the course workload, campus facilities, and life in SLC.

Yoon’s research group is always looking for highly motivated team players. No prior research experience is required for undergraduate students (EE or CE major). If you want to join our team, please visit the “Opening” tab (here) in the menu for more information.

* All ECE students at UAC are required to take courses in SLC during their junior/senior years (https://asiacampus.utah.edu/academics/electrical-engineering-bs/). If you are interested in nano/microstructured semiconductors for next-gen optoelectronics and energy, please check out our recent research work.

2024 04 Theory meets experiments.

Dr. Yoon teaches ECE 3200 (Introduction to Semiconductor Physics), a junior-level course offered each Spring semester (https://yoon.ece.utah.edu/ece-3200/). This course covers the fundamentals of semiconductor materials and the basic operational principles of semiconductor devices. At the end of the semester, Dr. Yoon organizes a lab tour of Utah’s Nanofab (https://www.nanofab.utah.edu/), giving students an inside look at how semiconductor materials are engineered to produce cutting-edge devices.

2024 04 Judy’s Poster Presentations

First-year undergraduate student Judy Ojewia has given several poster presentations and has been recognized as an Engineering Scholar in the College of Engineering and an ACCESS Scholar at the University of Utah. She has already made excellent progress in her research. Way to go, Judy! Ashraful is serving as her graduate research mentor.

2024 03 US-MAC Hot Topic Presentation

Dr. Yoon was invited to give a talk on the CTAC project at the US-MAC Hot Topic Presentations (Virtual). She discussed our latest results about the Al2O3 back-surface reflectors on CdTe-based solar cells (“Cathodoluminescence Characterization of CdTe PERC-Like Devices”). Ashraful and Etee lead this work. Etee works on nanoscale point-contact fabrications, while Ashraful focuses on the PV performance of group-V doped CdSeTe cells.
