2022 11 Group Lunch (Thanksgiving Week)
We are grateful to have talented group members who are also generous and kind in helping each other. We look forward to seeing the growth of our team next year. (left to clockwise: Etee, Dr. Yoon, Josh, Ashif, Ashraful, and Aaron)
2022 10 Dr. Yoon gives a talk at the 6th CdTe Workshop.
Our recent results on CdTe solar cells (group-V, Cu-doped CST absorbers) were shared at the 6th CdTe workshop. Etee Kawna Roy primarily leads this work. The microcontact approach complements diverse group efforts in the CTAC (Cadmium Telluride Accelerator Consortium; https://www.usa-cdte.org/). We thank our collaborator (First Solar, NREL) for sharing the high-quality CdTe samples.
2022 09 Yoon’s group stories in the COE report
Dr. Yoon and her group’s stories have been shared in the College of Engineering (COE) annual report (here). This article focuses on the projects of solar cells.
We strive to utilize solar energy to meet the rapidly-growing social demands for energy. Our research builds on the fundamental understanding of photocarrier transport at the nano/microscale. We are expanding our efforts to terrestrial and space PV applications.
2022 08 Ashraful joins the team.
We are happy to have a new Ph.D. student, Ashraful Mamum. Ashraful will focus on projects related to light interaction with thin-film semiconductors. Welcome, Ashraful!
2022 07 Welcome Josh!
We warmly welcome Josh Miraglia, who will be working with us as an RA. Josh has studied both Physics and ECE. He has many years in IT, particularly Linux-based systems. Welcome, Josh!
2022 06 IEEE PVSC (microcontact approach)
We present a newly developed microcontact approach at the 49th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference. This approach allows the local transport measurements across individual grains and grain boundaries.
Thank you for your efforts in this project, mainly former members (David Magginetti and Kaden Powell), Yu-Lin, and Etee. We also thank our collaborators (First Solar, NREL) and the funding agencies (NSF, DOE).
2022 05 Farewell lunch with Yu-Lin
Yu-Lin (Nick) has completed his MS program. Congratulations! We wish him the best with his new job at TSMC.
2022 04 Aaron receives UROP Award.
Aaron Coon’s proposal has been selected for a UROP award for summer 2022. Congratulations, Aaron!
2022 04 We are back (lab recovery).
In August 2021, we had lots of rain in Salt Lake City. This flooding hit our lab and many other labs. With the tremendous efforts in the long demolition and remodeling processes, we are now back in the labs. We appreciate the work of the staff and the administrative leadership. I am thankful to the group members for their extensive support during this period.
