Eric and Zijian will continue their graduate programs at the University of California (San Diego) and at Northwestern University, respectively. We wish them the best for their next journey. Both students were tremendously helpful setting up the lab. Thank you!

We welcome Andrew Baker, an REU student from Clarion University (Clarion, PA). Andy is only a junior student, yet he has received several prestigious fellowships, including Karl and Inge Sendler Scholarship, William Hart Scholarship, and Paul Shank Scholarship. We are happy to work with him this summer. Andy will be working on 3-D compositional characterization of BSTS using an electron beam. He will be working with Dean and David. Welcome Andy!
Dean received his second UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program) award. His research focuses on the local inhomogeneous properties of thin-film CdTe solar cells. Congratulations, Dean!
We are happy to have a new group member, David Magginetti. David is a PhD student in the Department of Materials Science Engineering. He is a past recipient of Wayne Brown Fellowship at the University of Utah. His research focuses on the interface properties of hybrid nano/micro materials and devices. Welcome David!
Yoon’s group gave a presentation at the Materials Research Society conference. The work is conducted in close collaborations with Dr. Kyu-Bum Han, Dr. Jeffery Aguiar, Dr. Brian van Devener, Prof. Vikram Deshpade, and Prof. Taylor Spark.
The Technical Open-House is one of the exciting events in the ECE department at the University of Utah. All ECE students must complete a senior project to meet graduation requirements. One-year long senior projects are presented in the conference with students, faculty, and sponsors from industry and national labs.

Dean gave a final presentation at the Technical Open-House and won the award (Outstanding Electrical Engineering Senior Project).

Dr. Yoon gave an invited seminar in the ECE department at Utah State University. It was a good opportunity to meet graduate students and to learn about exciting research work at USU (such as Prof. Reyhan Baktur‘s project integrating transparent antenna on solar cells).

We thank Utah’s Nanofab for the generous support. The Utah’s Nanofab provides state-of-the-art fabrication tools and characterization systems. In particular, the dual detectors equipped in the STEM/EDX offer over 10X higher sensitivity than in a conventional system. It is one to the best EDX systems in the country. This year, a brand new EBSD system with a SSD was installed in the surface characterization lab.
We are very excited working with the tools to investigate the local properties of thin-film solar cells!
